Dr. Gross is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and has been Director of Obstetrics at Barnes-Jewish Hospital since 1998.  He serves as Education Director for the Division of Genetics, Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Ultrasound.  He serves on numerous committees including the Women’s and Infants Quality Assurance and Pediatrics Advisory Committees as well as being an active participant on the Human Studies Committee.   His research interests center on preterm labor with projects focusing on the dissection of mechanisms that lead to preterm labor, predictors of preterm labor, and novel therapeutic modalities.  In addition he studies infection-related morbidities of labor and delivery and is a key participant in the study of back pelvic pain in pregnancy.  Dr. Gross has interests in all areas of clinical perinatology and spearheads the fetal transfusion service at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.  Dr. Gross’ other major area of interest is in education.  He is involved in the development of clinical care paths and the creation of teaching modules including the introduction of simulator based technology.  He sponsors several resident and fellow research projects and serves as mentor for several physicians in training.  In addition to these he also teaches on the undergraduate campus of Washington University, a class entitled “Understanding the Evidence: Provocative Topics of Contemporary Women’s Health and Reproduction”.  This class introduces the concept on an evidence based approach using topics of women’s heath as platforms.
