Dr. Powell is currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Washington University School of Medicine. He maintains a busy clinical practice caring for patients with known or suspected gynecologic malignancies or precancers, or other complicated medical / gynecologic problems. He has special expertise in minimally invasive cancer surgery (laparoscopy) as well as fertility sparing surgery. Dr. Powell is involved in both clinical and molecular research in the field of gynecologic cancers (ovarian, uterine, cervical, vulvar, peritoneum, placenta and fallopian tube). He currently serves on the National Institutes of Health sponsored Gynecologic Oncology Group as a study chairman and committee member of the Uterine Corpus Committee. He currently oversees a national uterine sarcoma study involving chemotherapy. Locally he serves on the Washington University’s Human Studies Committee and Protocol review committee for the Siteman Cancer Center. He has reviewed articles for the following journals: Gynecologic Oncology, Clinical Cancer Research, International Journal of Gynecological Cancer, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Journal of the America College of Surgeons. Dr. Powells wife is a Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecologist and they have three children.
