Dr. Shumway has a strong interest in biostatistics and epidemiology, utilization of state and regional records to analyze various complications of pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes, and health care delivery in rural versus urban settings. He directs the divisional transport service and is actively involved in outreach and obstetrical education in the Missouri/Illinois region. Areas of expertise include maternal fetal medicine, high risk pregnancy, multiple births, preterm labor, cervical incompetence, recurrent pregnancy losses, stillbirth, miscarriage, preeclampsia, pregnancy induced hypertension, prematurity, preterm delivery, placental abruption, diabetes mellitus, thrombophilia, premature rupture of membranes, and other medical disorders of pregnancy.
